The Process

CRS Core Courses

  • Use the Budget Calculations Worksheet to determine the costs and potential profit involved in sponsoring a CRS course.
  • Determine which CRS Core Course would be most successful in your area. Check the course schedule to see the courses that have already been scheduled in your market area.
  • Identify three possible dates for each course you are sponsoring, in case of a scheduling conflict.
  • Review the Blackout Dates to help you make your decision.
  • Choose from any of the Council’s nationally renowned Instructors.
  • Determine if you are going to co-sponsor your CRS Core Course. Both sponsors must sign the course contract.
  • Search for a facility to hold the course that meets all facility requirements.
  • For each course you are sponsoring, send in a signed course contract and a $1,000 deposit made payable to:

    Council of Residential Specialists
    Attn: Education Program Coordinator
    430 N. Michigan Ave., Ste. 300
    Chicago, IL 60611-4092

Allow two to three weeks* to receive written confirmation from the Council outlining course dates and instructor. You may not begin marketing your course until you have received written confirmation from the Council.

The confirmation packet includes:

  • Course Sponsor Handbook (if applicable)
  • Course confirmation letter
  • Instructor confirmation letter(s) for each course with instructor biography attached
  • Copy of your course contract(s)
  • Continuing Education course information letter(s)

*Confirmation during the bulk scheduling period is two to three months.

CRS Approved One-Unit Courses

Sponsors will purchase CRS approved one-unit courses directly from the course instructor. Sponsors should negotiate all arrangements with the instructor, including the date and fees. Each time the course is presented, a royalty fee of $750 shall be sent to the Council by the instructor. The instructor may add these expenses to his/her teaching fee.

The final outcome of your negotiations should be documented in a written contract or letter of agreement. The Council will not resolve any disputes between the sponsor and the instructor.

For a checklist that identifies all the items you should discuss with the instructor before your program is finalized please contact the Education Program Coordinator.
